Former Chelsea midfielder Joe Cole said that the head coach of the Blues, Mauricio Pochettino, has “the most difficult job in football.”
Pochettino’s debut season at the helm of Chelsea is going rather badly — the Blues no longer have a chance of trophies and are still in the middle of the Premier League table.
However, Cole, who played 282 games for Chelsea over seven years, opposes Pochettino’s dismissal. Joe points out that Mauricio faced huge expectations and an abundance of players who were brought to the club by other people.
“Is it his fault? Chelsea are not where they want to be. They are not where they should be, and that’s a fact.”
“I think, given the money they spent and the number of players who came and went, Mauricio is doing a great job.”
“I think he has the most difficult job in world football, because obviously he has no complete control over the players who come and go. There is no doubt about that.”
“The expectations associated with them are huge, and this is right, because they have been accustomed to this over the past 20 years. In terms of trophies won, Chelsea were second to no other club in Europe, with the possible exception of Real Madrid.
“Therefore, they just need to keep faith in him and move forward, I assure you, changing the coach is not an option,” Cole said on TNT Sports from Villa Park on Saturday.
