The head of the refereeing corps, Howard Webb, wants the referees of the Premier League to explain their decisions to the public right during the match.
At the moment, the International Council of Football Associations (IFAB), which sets the rules of football, prohibits playing audio recordings of referees’ conversations for the stands during a match.
Webb’s organization would like to lift this ban, and until then, it is ready to be content if the referees get access to the microphone to make announcements to the entire stadium.
“At FIFA tournaments like the Women’s World Cup, you can see announcements from referees after they are called to the monitor.”
“Therefore, we are studying this and are open to trying to implement something similar in the Premier League.”
“If the referee can talk to everyone in the stadium and justify his decision, it can really help,” Webb was quoted as saying by talkSPORT.
